Stefan Giesen
Born in Bonn in 1958. Studied law and languages in Bonn, Paris and Siena. While in Paris, he became increasingly involved with wine, attended courses given by the wine writer Steven Spurrier and received training at Château Pichon Longueville, owned by the Comtesse de Lalande. After a brief spell as a lawyer, he came to Italy and worked as an administrator and winemaker in a leading Chianti Classico estate between 1987 and 2000. Since 1997, he and his wife Christine have also devoted themselves to the development of their own vineyard, Podere San Giuseppe, in the up-and-coming DOC region of Montecucco. He is a consultant to a number of organic wine growers and a co-founder of Tomas & Giesen. |

Fabrizio Tomas
Born and grew up in Naples in 1960. Studied agronomy at the university of Portici. Also earned his living as a windsurfing and skiing instructor. Attended wine waiter training courses. Came to Tuscany in 1990 and worked here initially as a cellar man and laboratory assistant, before eventually opting for the profession of oenologist. He then worked for a number of famous Chianti estates, including Castello di Volpaia. He later joined the team of oenologists at Maurizio Castelli. Today, he is a consultant to some of the renowned organic vineyards in Tuscany. He was one of the co-founders of Tomas & Giesen in 1995. |

Stefano Borsa
Born in Milan in 1959. Studied agronomy. Worked initially in the field of plant selection, and subsequently for various vineyards in Tuscany. In 1998, he was appointed as manager of Castello di Volpaia, the famous Chianti Classico estate. He currently works as a consultant oenologist for various vineyards and is in charge of the Azienda Pacina in Castelnuovo Berardegna together with his wife, Giovanna Tiezzi. This historic estate – the walls were once part of a monastery – has been owned by the Tiezzi family for five generations and grows a first-class Chianti Colli Senesi on ten hectares. Stefano Borsa is also a partner in Tomas & Giesen. |
