At the time of establishing Tomas & Giesen, we took the decision to concentrate on wines from controlled organic cultivation. We were encouraged in this for the following reasons:
1. Quality: wine growers who treat their vineyards with care and consideration normally harvest healthier grapes of higher quality. This is particularly true in the southern areas of Italy, in which we specialize.
2. Environment: The burden imposed on the environment over the past few years has increased to a level that will concern many future generations. Through organic cultivation, we demonstrate our active commitment to safeguard natural resources.
3. Health: Organic cultivation protects not only the fauna and flora, but also the people who work in the vineyards. The wines, too, are placed under less of a burden, because the wine-growing process takes place in a similarly lenient manner.
Most of the wines von Tomas & Giesen originate from 100% controlled organic cultivation. The wines are inspected by recognized organizations and in the majority of cases meet stricter standards than are stipulated in the EU Directive on the organic production of agricultural products. We organize seminars for our wine-growing partners on how to improve the organic and tasting quality, and we also provide them with support locally.
